Dancing on ice “prop” week

I love Dancing on Ice, it is a my dirty habit once a year to tune into. Having watched all but the original series, I look forward to props week. This year however was a complete disappointment compared to previous years!

Yes this year the skating is far better than any other year, with two skaters constantly pushing at the top, closely now followed by two others vying for thte title, but it was more skating and less props! Jorgie did a great routine, with a ribbon twirling at all times while flying around the ring, yet had low scores, while others like Chico acted with a prop for a whole of two seconds before flying to the next one! The only routine that really seemed to embrace it was Danielle’s with suitcases, buckets and squirting flowers!

There was no umbrella, no table or chair! So to get your fill of a real props week, here are my top 10 props week.

10. Ray with the Hat

This other than the drop and slight stumble, showed how to use a hat as a prop, and not just a feature to sit on your head!

9. Jessica under her Umbrella (hella..)

Yes the skating is no where even near the bottom skaters in this year’s competition but it shows what you can do to really involve a prop into a routine. I mean to be swung around by the umbrella or sat on it during a spinning lift is using it!

8. Stefen gets Chris involved

I love this one as Chris was involved in the routine and even in his two snippets acted along to make the piece seem even better!

7. Danielle clowning around

I have loved Danielle from week1 this year, and it is not because of her skating but her fun and bubbly personality! I enjoyed her routine this year, with its cheeky side, even squirting the crowd with water in the routine.

6. Roxy gets sexy with her chair

Got to love her reaction to her mum watching her sexy routine, and then how great it was, spinning off the chair compared to the “prop” week we were shown this year. Yes the skating is no where as goo, but it still puts it to shame!

5. Jorgie should have twirled higher

I loved this routine, it was beautiful in how it appeared and I know her skating was not as excellent as normal, but you try twirling that thing constantly throughout a floor routine without tangling your self up, let alone on ice being lifted, its not easy!

Just shows non of the judges know how to ribbon it up! Jason should have been there, with his crazy cravats through the previous seasons, he woul have known the issues involved!

4. Chris and Frankie fly under the table

Frankie is my favourite professional and I am so sad that in the past few years, her partner has always been out by week 2 or 3. When she was paired with the full of spark Chris, it was a gleeful series!

3. Laura mixes it up with attitude

Laura mixed lots of items, and made it look great! If you’re going to mix props, watch this lady

2. Did they or didn’t they?

The question that plagued us all for weeks was whether Hayley and Dan kissed at the end of their routine! This was a joy to watch, and even stands to show how much passion she could put through her skating. I think I have only see Jorgie act out a better routine than Hayley.

I must say I am definately on the yes team, as through all the weeks, their initimate skates bloomed with real spark only I have never seen acted in anything I have watched.

Find out what you think here!

1. That suitcase

Who, if you have ever seen it, can forget that suitcase. The one that stole the show! It was the first time I feel in love with props week and has stuck with me ever since. I am pretty sure that other than Hayley’s very famous Ja Ho! performance, that this is my most memorable routine ever. The suitcase came part of Karen and Melanie’s pairing that it was named Wally!

Just goes to show you to keep it simple stupid!

Reality TV

I am not going to lie, but I watch Dancing on Ice. It is my flithy habit, but when I don’t have sports channels here at my flat, so I can’t watch the professionals, it gives me a chance to watch skating, with aload of breaks inbetween (I don’t watch anything but the skating).

I have though, gotten into the habit or watching the twitter channels for news and opinions, especially with Dancing on Ice or when forced to watch shows I don’t like. Tonight I was shocked at the support a guy called Andy from Corrie (i think). His skills are clearly the poorest of the whole lot, yet there are people claiming how amazing he is!

I am glad there are other people who think like me, and realise his skill is lacking, and he should leave so better skaters can stay on. I was shocked more when someone believed half of his skating votes should be based on who he is rather than on his skills!

If that’s the case I should go on, stand there and get voted through by the country for being the underdog/non-celeb and for everything I have been through. Or what about the Queen?

These shows have been designed to sucker people into voting and how they wish. But it is still shocking to see how people are really fooled into voting for poor skaters, but then I guess, they need to diffientiate between those that aren’t going to win…

How fair really is reality tv?

I never vote on any reality tv, nor have a tendency to watch or enjoy it. I do however watch dancing on ice for the skating and outfits.

There is nothing better than an hour or so sketching outfits based on often great designs with ice skating in between.

What I am always shocked about though when watching this show and the others I am forced to watch by family members, is the manipulation they all do.

This evening on dancing on I’ve a member of Corry, not sure who, Adam or Andy I think, received 19 points. As the current worst skater, who has bad core stability, no finishing on his moves and numerous wobbles, got higher marks than a sugarbabe. Her basics from posture, basic forward movement, tricks, dancing and finish all top him. Yes there was two wobbles too, but how did she have lower marks?

The audience of Corry is the type of demographic more likely to vote, so this terrible “skater” has never been in the bottom few. While this was fine in previous weeks, there is a monetary reason to be nice to this guy to keep him in, right? Funny how the wobbles, early steps on the ice, no finish and unreasonable high marks appeared.

Then there is the sudden change in the female judges attitude to scoring. She suddenly was scoring harshly on most people, while in previous weeks has been overly giving them out. I think someone might have had a little telling off.

Through the years I have seen many occasion where the audience is being manipulated, with the order of those singing, skating or dancing having a bigger effect than you may think!

I remember a few years ago brig forced to watch strictly where it was obvious a female celebrity had had enough. She even said it in her segment but she couldn’t just drop out as people had voted her to stay.

Her costume had an obvious last minute change to add terrible frills, judges made nice comments after weeks of terrible ones and there was nothing great to deserve those comments.
The terrible costume, place to dance in the episode, judges treatment (so she no longer appeared as the underdog against the mean judges) and other comments stopped people feeling the desire to vote for her. Their underdog no longer existed.

Now while that sort of arrangement is understandable to save the celeb and show face, tonights was not.

It was obvious and clear that they wanted someone with such a strong and active voting base to remain in over an ex-girl band singer whose fanbase it not as active on spending their money.

It is a shame though, as he will remain when the freerunner has had to leave.

I just wish someone from ITV reads this and decides to chuck him out as the result of this (and bring back someone who has a good core basic ability to skate, who also provides the show something different.

This is also why I don’t vote, as it is a waste of money due to the mass manipulation.
