Breaks break lent

I have decided that broken bones and limbs break lent too.

I have also come to a second conclusion; I am never being belated by a fresher!

Before you ask, I am alive and well; though I doubt real worry from you on my behalf.

Today rather than going outdoor climbing in the rain, myself a few other decided going climbing at the Warehouse in Gloucester was better. Climbing with the old university group is great fun, and the perfect catch up, while having a chance to climb again.

You also have an idea of how good the course and instruction of the group is and know that 5 months after starting, the freshers are able to belay safely.

Oh how wrong could we be!

After I had exhausted my wrists from climbing 3 routes and belaying 2, we got a fresher who was left alone to belay my friend.

Successfully having completed the climb she began to descend but at a fast rate! Telling the fresher to slow her up, rather than slowing or stopping her, he let go of the rope!

She now has mashed up the two bones in her forearm and requires surgery to correct it and he is probably terrified to belay ever again.

Her s-shaped wrist has now been straightened and plastered but her lent will now be broken as she now needs the sugar from the hospital starving her of food in case they could operate. But if faced with a break like that, if you like chocolate, you need a cheer up!

So I think if you break a bone, especially badly, your lent should get to finish early. That doesn’t mean if your struggling with lent that you can go and break something; it is only unintentional breaks!
